Make learning to read and memorize sight words fun by playing games! With pumpkins in season, play this messy and fun sight word game. This Pumpkin Smash Sight Word Game is perfect for preschoolers, Kindergartners and 1st graders working to build fluency.
Get ready for some messy fun... and learn, too!
Print this pumpkin template, laminate, cut out, and write sight words or whatever it is your kiddo is working on now.
"Borrow" your hubby's shaving cream (sorry, honey!) and put dobs of shaving cream on your table and place the pumpkins, every-so-lightly, on top for this super fun sight word game. My son did all the smashing, but we both were just a laughing as shaving cream flew everywhere!
Sight Word Game
Supplies:
- shaving cream
- sight word list
- laminator
- pumpkin template
- marker
** Oh, and make sure you are in an area of your house that can easily be cleaned... i.e. not on your carpet!
** Rather not use shaving cream? Use small balls of play dough instead! Or for an edible version, use whip cream!
How To Play Sight Word Pumpkin Smash Game
Prep this sight word game by printing out and laminating pumpkin templates. With a dry erase marker, write a sight word on each pumpkin.
Spray small dollops of shaving cream all over your playing surface.
Place the sight word pumpkins lightly on top.
Now you are ready to making learning to read oh so fun! ?!?
Call out a word on one of the pumpkins and when your child finds it, have your him/her SMASH it!
The more shaving cream you use, the messier (and more fun) it will be.
We did this a couple of times and shaving cream has been added to our grocery list!
If your child is not ready to read yet, enjoy these Pumpkin Smash Game Variations:
- letters
- numbers
- shapes
