Remember our Rainbow Tree from last year? Well, we used the same technique to create a playful activity for the nursery rhyme, Five Little Monkeys.
Are you familiar with that rhyme? I learned it right around the time Big Brother was three; it is such a cute and playful rhyme.
It's a very fun rhyme to chant along with hand motions, but we decided to work more on our fine motor skills and share this with you on Fine Motor Friday! It goes like this:
5 little monkeys swinging in a tree,
teasing Mr. Alligator can't catch me....
Along comes Mr. Alligator as quiet as can be...
and SNAP! goes the monkey out of that tree...
{continue til there are no more monkeys....}
No little monkeys swinging in a tree,
teasing Mr. Alligator can't catch me,
along comes Mr. Alligator as quiet as can be...
and SNAP! he ate the tree!
Preschool Fine Motor Activity
To set up your own Five Little Monkey's Fine Motor activity, you'll need:
{post contains affilate links}
- pipe cleaners
- barrel monkeys
- clothespin
- googly-eyes
- marker and/or paint
Twist 5 or more pipe cleaners together, but leave the ends un-touched.
One end will be taped to the table and the other end will be your branches.
We put about five together, but I would suggest at least 8-10 pipe cleaners for sturdiness. Otherwise, you'll need a hand to hold it up.
Prep your clothespin alligator by coloring the clothespin green, adding some sharp teeth, and two googly eyes.
As you sing the song, have your child use the clothespin alligator to "eat" one of the monkeys! Enjoy this fun activity with your little one(s).
